In our literacy session today we read a poem as a whole class activity, except the students only got to read the first verse.
We looked at the different features of the verse - where the capital letters were, which words were repeated, which lines rhymed etc. Then in groups I gave them a copy of the second verse which had been cut up into one word or two word sections. Their task was to work collaboratively and put the words of the second verse into order. It was quite a challenging task, but all groups were focused on completing the puzzle and being able to read the whole poem. This is definitely an activity we will try again.
The second verse was:
I ran to the window
To say, "How do you do?"
But he shook his fluffy tail,
And said, "HAPPY EASTER TO YOU!"
