Global Celebrations

This term our inquiry topic is Global Celebrations and we have been looking at different celebrations around the world.

We started by brainstorming all the different celebrations we could think of - birthdays, Christmas, Easter, ANZAC Day, weddings, Valentine's Day, New Year etc.  Then we started working on identifying the main points of some of those celebrations.

This week the students have started investigating wedding traditions from China, India, Greece and Africa.  They have been busy using ipads and computers to do their research.
Max and Cooper researching weddings in China

Mylo, Luke and Danella research weddings in Greece

Gabriella, Roshina, Mackenzie and Saria researching Indian weddings

Jade finishing the 4 main parts of weddings sheet

Over the next couple of weeks the students will start working on a duality project where they will choose an occasion and compare how 2 different countries celebrate e.g Christmas in NZ and England.  Our topic culminates in an international shared lunch in the last week of term  - we hope you can join us.

Science Fair

Wow what a busy day we have had today!  First thing this morning we went to Room 17 where we listened to and watched Sophie's Dad as he showed us some science equipment he uses at his work.

Then we set up our classrooms ready for our Science Fair.  The students were taking the opportunity to showcase their amazing presentations about their learning on the subject of "Change".  After morning tea some of the Junior classes came to visit and ask us questions.  After we had talked to them, the Year 5 & 6  students came to see our work.

Finally, after lunch we had the opportunity to share our learning with our families.  A huge thank you to all of you who were able to make it along and who took time to ask all the students about their presentations.
