Home Learning
Every Friday the Kawau team teachers hand out new Home Learning sheets to be completed over the following week. Students should glue these in to their Home Learning books at school and bring them home with them each Friday, handing them back in to be looked over on Thursdays. In case the sheet goes astray between school and home they can now be viewed on this blog. Just click on the Home Learning tab at the top of the page.

Future Oscar hopefuls!
Today as part of our Topic lesson we split into groups and created role plays demonstrating how we show aroha and our CARE values in the school. With very little rehearsal time the groups took up the challenge, and, although there were a few first night nerves, there were calls for encores at the end. Ka pai everyone, it's hard standing up in front of an audience and performing and you did a great job.
Friday Fun
Our Friday swim sessions are all about building water confidence through fun in the pool, and last Friday we all certainly had a lot of fun. The threat of rain didn't put us off as we joined Room 18 for a splash around. It's great to see confidence improving as the weeks go by.

Apologies .....
for the confusion over swimming times caused by last weeks Home learning sheet. To confirm, swimming for our class is on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from this week onwards.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Our Classroom
We have been finishing off some work over the last week and it is starting to appear on the walls in our room. Here's a peak if you haven't yet had the chance to come and see it for yourselves.
Our "All About Me" art
Our Class Treaty and Self Portraits
Collaboration
This term we are thinking about "Our Journey to Success" in our Topic / Inquiry lessons. This includes considering what our C.A.R.E values look like in our class and learning community, and how we demonstrate those values to the members of our class and school. Our big question for the term is "How do I learn collaboratively?" This week we had a brainstorming session around the concept of how we show aroha to our friends and came up with some fabulous ideas. The students split into groups and were given a large piece of paper on which they drew pictures demonstrating how aroha is shown at Torbay School. At the same time groups also took part in some collaborative games and tasks including directing each other blindfolded around the class room and working together to sort counters and dinosaurs by colour and number. I was very impressed with the results of our afternoons work. Ka pai Room 19!

'All About Me' Art
These last two weeks we have been busy creating some artwork which describes our personalities and abilities. Students drew wavy lines across an A4 page and painted the sections in colours of their choosing. Then we brainstormed some fantastic adjectives to describe ourselves. This week we will be adding them to our artwork and soon you'll be able to see the results up in Room 19.

About the blog
Welcome to all the students and families of Room 19. It's been lovely getting to know all the students and meeting some parents before and after school. I hope to see you at the Meet the Teacher evening which is coming up this Friday 13th February.
In this blog you will be able to find some learning links, and be able to read what we in Room 19 have been learning over the term. I hope you will enjoy reading through this blog as the year progresses.
Regards
Claire Kelly
